HITE
automation generalities. Hardware, Systems architecture, Communications
The central
element of all our systems is constituted by a main PC taking
care of the graphical user interface and the production libraries,
processing complex real time calculation tasks and managing the
communications with all the controllers on the machine. For large
installations the user interface can be expanded on supplementary
PCs through an Ethernet network. A second local area network links
the main PC to another PC managing the statistical treatment of
all relevant production data, this last one beeing connected to
the factory main LAN.

The programmable logical controllers and all the intelligent peripheral
units such as the rectifiers are connected to the main PC, either
through the fielbus PROFIBUS, or through the Ethernet network
for small installations. The special devices such as codebars,
pieces counters, balance are normally connected to the serial
or USB ports. According to their type all the devices are grouped
into virtual control units (UCs) holding each one
a thousand registers provided with well defined meanings
that can be easily identified on the various general visualization
tools available on our systems. This normalisation facilitates
in a great measure the programmation, the checkout and the updates
of the systems software.
